 On behalf of our school community I welcome you to Moreton Downs State School through our Website.I hope that the material provided on this site will inform you about the many aspects of our great school and keep you up-dated on the programs and events we offer to all students who attend. I look forward to forming a positive partnership with you to ensure your child’s full potential is developed as a student at our school. Moreton Downs State School is a special place where clear demonstrations of our purpose and beliefs take place in every classroom. Our Parents & Citizens Association is an important school community group, integral in providing advice that represents the interests and learning of all students. I invite you to become an active member of this group and to take part in the educative process developed for your child. Working together, I believe we can maximise the opportunity for your child to learn. Our focus for the remainder of this triennium (2007-2010) is on improvement of student performance in Literacy and Numeracy. In 2009 we will be focused on implementing plans to improve our scores on the National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN), placing a clear focus on the teaching of Literacy and Numeracy. We offer a strong focus for learning in these two Key Learning Areas and have recently, (2008), developed school based programs that identify the Essentials to be taught for each year level in all Key Learning Areas. We boast a committed, experienced, professional staff, which embrace ‘life long learning’ and have a clear focus on improving student learning. All teachers will be planning and providing purposeful engaging activities developed from these programs. Many of our teachers are involved in providing extra curricula activities for our students. This year we have developed a distinctive program for Moreton Downs State School called the ‘Pathfinder Learning Program’ which has been developed in an attempt to engage middle phase students in learning. The focus areas for this program are Technology, Sport, The Arts and Science. We are excited that this program will motivate our students in their area of choice. Our school offers a strong support program for all students with our ‘CALM’ room being central to supporting student’s social development and academic progress. This year is our third year of Preparatory Education for students. Our prep teachers have developed quality play-based programs to enhance student readiness for the early phase of primary school. We are pleased with the readiness of our students, who completed prep in 2008 and have moved to Year 1 in 2009. I encourage and invite you to become an active participant in our school community, as we continue our focus on providing ‘quality learning opportunities for all students, balancing academic, social, emotional and physical development and extending students to reach their individual potential in becoming contributing members of a changing society.’ Again I welcome you to our school.
